Passengers can book Tatkal e-tickets for selected trains one day in advance excluding the journey date from the train originating railway station. The Tatkal tickets can be booked on the opening day from 10:00 AM for AC class, which comprises of 2A, 3A, CC, EC, 3E coaches and at 11:00 AM for Non AC class, which includes SL, FC, 2S coaches. For example, if a train is to depart from the originating railway station on 5 August, the Tatkal ticket booking will commence at 10:00 AM for AC class and it will commence at 11:00 AM for Non-AC class on 4 August.

NEW DELHI : In one of its biggest crackdown on illegal ticketing in the railways, the RPF has arrested a madrassa-educated, self-taught software developer from Jharkhand in a racket which has links to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Dubai with suspected involvement in terror financing, a senior official said on Tuesday.

Ghulam Mustafa (28), who was arrested from Bhubaneswar, has a team of programmers working for him. He started his career in 2015 touting counter tickets in Bengaluru and then graduated to e-tickets and illegal software, the RPF official said.

On 25th October 2020, officers from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested 32-year-old S Yuvarajaa for allegedly swindling around Rs 20 lakh via two fraudulent mobile apps for IRCTC ticket booking. As per the reports, in 2016, Yuvarajaa developed an app named Super Tatkal and an updated version of the app Super Tatkal Pro in 2019. He gained up to one lakh users during this period and made around Rs 20 lakh using in-app purchases.

Ticketing touts have been a major issue for Indian Railways. Touts, as a term, refers to a person who tries to persuade people to buy a certain product or services from him, rather than going to the authentic source.
